The first category is explicitly supported and will save you hours every week. The second is exactly what Pinterest's spam systems were built to catch.

The line Pinterest actually draws

Pinterest's community guidelines are unusually clear about automation. The prohibited behavior is bulk, inauthentic, or manufactured activity: mass-saving, automated following, scripted engagement, and any tool operating your account outside approved API access. Evergreen recycling — of topics, not assets

Recycling is safe when you recycle the destination and refresh the creative. Your "sourdough starter troubleshooting" post deserves to be pinned again in six months. It does not deserve the identical image with the identical title pinned again in six months.

The workable pattern: keep a library of your best-performing evergreen content URLs, and on a rotation, produce a genuinely new pin for each — different photo or graphic, different text overlay, a description written for a different search intent. RSS-to-pin, with a human gate

Auto-pinning from an RSS feed is legitimate and useful, with one important limitation: an RSS feed gives you a title, a link, and usually a horizontal featured image. Don't automate

Mass repinning and board loops

Saving one pin to a dozen boards in a short window, or running a loop that resurfaces your archive automatically, is the single most reliable way to look like a bot. Anything requiring your password

Tools that log in as you rather than authorizing via OAuth are browser automation wearing a scheduler's clothing. They break constantly, they can't be whitelisted, and they concentrate every risk factor in one place.
