How to Schedule Google Business Profile Posts (Free)

Last updated: 2026-06-02 · Google Business Profile · By SocialKit Team

Google Business Profile has no built-in post scheduler, which means every update goes live the moment you type it — or not at all. SocialKit fills that gap: connect your profile, write Updates, Offers, and Events in advance, pick your publish time, and let the posts go out automatically while you run the business.

Before you start

You need a SocialKit account — the 7-day free trial costs €0.00 today and gives you full access to GBP scheduling from day one.

On the Google side, you must be an owner or manager of the Business Profile you want to post to. GBP connects through Google OAuth, so have the Google account that controls the profile ready. If you manage more than one location, you can connect each as a separate account; the Solo plan includes 15 social accounts across all 11 platforms.

For post images (recommended for every post type), check the current GBP image spec — the commonly cited minimum for post images is 400×300 px and the preferred aspect ratio is landscape 4:3 (1200×900 px is the recommended export), though Google accepts a range as of June 2026.

Step by step

  1. Connect your Google Business Profile to SocialKit

In SocialKit, go to workspace settings and open the accounts or connections area. Choose Google Business Profile from the platform list. You will be redirected to Google’s own OAuth consent screen — sign in with the Google account that owns or manages the profile and approve the requested permissions. As of June 2026 this grants SocialKit a revocable access token; your Google password is never shared with SocialKit.

Tip: If you manage several locations, SocialKit asks you to select which profile or location to link after authorization. Connect them one at a time so each location gets its own scheduling queue.

  2. Open the post composer and choose your post type

Once connected, click to create a new post and select your Google Business Profile. As of June 2026 SocialKit supports the main GBP post types — Updates (also called "What's New"), Offers, and Events. Choose the type that matches what you are announcing: Updates for general news, Offers for discount or promotional content, and Events for dated occasions.

Tip: Offers and Events carry start and end dates that appear directly on your Google listing — scheduling them a few days ahead of the relevant window is more effective than posting on the day.

  3. Write your post copy and add a photo

Enter your post text. As of June 2026 GBP post copy supports up to approximately 1,500 characters, though Google surfaces only the first two or three lines in search results before a "more" link. Lead with the most important information. Adding at least one image increases engagement; use the free GBP post size guide to resize your photo to the recommended dimensions before uploading.

Tip: Use the free Google Business Character Counter to check your copy length and preview how the opening lines read before you schedule.

  4. Add a call-to-action button (optional)

GBP posts can include a CTA button such as "Learn more", "Book", "Order online", "Buy", or "Call now". Add the relevant link or phone number in SocialKit's composer. As of June 2026 the available CTA types depend on the post type — Events and Offers have slightly different button options than Updates.

  5. Set your publish date and time

Click the schedule option rather than "Publish now". Pick the date and time that suits your audience. If you are unsure when your customers search most actively, the GBP best-time-to-post guide gives starting-point windows based on aggregated data — treat them as hypotheses to test against your own Google Business Insights rather than guarantees.

Tip: Scheduling posts for weekends and evenings, when staff are not at a desk, is one of the clearest advantages of a dedicated scheduler over the manual GBP interface.

  6. Review and confirm the scheduled post

Check the composer preview — confirm the post type, copy, image, CTA, and scheduled time. When satisfied, save or confirm the schedule. The post appears in your SocialKit calendar at the chosen slot and will auto-publish to Google Business Profile at that time.

  7. Cross-post the same update to Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn (optional)

If the same announcement is relevant to your social channels, use SocialKit's cross-post feature to send a tailored version to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or any of the other 10 supported platforms in the same session. Each network gets its own variant so you can trim copy, adjust the tone, or swap the image without starting over.

Best practices

  • Post at least once per week on Google Business Profile — consistent activity signals an active, trustworthy business to both Google and potential customers, as of June 2026.
  • Match post type to purpose: use Offers with start and end dates for promotions, Events for specific dates, and Updates for news that does not expire. Mixing types adds variety and keeps your listing current.
  • Include a photo in every post where possible — image-bearing GBP posts tend to receive more clicks than text-only ones, though Google does not publish official breakdowns.
  • Keep the first sentence actionable and specific ("20% off all haircuts this Saturday" outperforms "Great deals available") because only the opening lines show before the "more" link.
  • Schedule a month of posts in a single session by batching content creation — queue Updates for weekly news, an Offer for each promotion, and Events for every dated occasion, then close SocialKit and let the calendar run.
  • Review your Google Business Insights weekly to see which post types and days drive the most views and clicks, then use those signals to refine your scheduling windows.

Good to know

Auto-publish and post expiry on Google Business Profile

SocialKit publishes GBP posts automatically at the scheduled time — no mobile reminder or manual step is needed, as of June 2026, because the Google Business Profile API supports direct publishing for the post types SocialKit supports.

Be aware that GBP posts do not stay visible indefinitely. As of June 2026, Update posts typically remain visible for approximately seven days before being moved to the archive section of your profile, while Offer and Event posts display until their end date. This means a consistent posting schedule (at least weekly for Updates) is necessary to keep your listing looking active — scheduling ahead is how most businesses maintain that cadence without daily manual effort.

Multi-location accounts

If your business has multiple locations, each Google Business Profile location needs to be connected as a separate account in SocialKit. You can then schedule the same post to multiple locations by adding each connected profile when composing. As of June 2026 the exact multi-select flow in the composer should be confirmed against the live SocialKit interface, as the account-picker UI may vary.
